I have updated the debates page on the course site to show the teams and topics. I did this several days ago but it seems that it was not well known.
I need to know which teams cannot debate on Thursday so I can set the schedule. Tosh has agreed to advise one topic but no one else has stepped up to do others. If you have questions or would like to meet with me about a topic/question then email me and we can discuss it or arrange a time to meet. |

Here are the top* four questions. I will probably refine the questions a bit before the debate but the main point will remain the same.
1 - Open Source: Should companies be required to provide source code for review? 2 - Software Engineering License: Should there be a license to practice software engineering? 3 - Net Neutrality: Should the network infrastructure remain neutral 4 - Video Game Violence: Does violence in video games cause violent behavior? There will be two teams on each topic. Topic selection for a team is via email to me and is first come first served. *my vote counts slightly more than any other |

Dr. Hauser, I'm so sorry. I hope everyone in the family is doing all right.

Thanks so much for starting this.
Everyone in 499 is required to vote (you were required to discuss the questions as well, alas). I have been distracted and I am sorry not to have been more active on this. My son, Sam, went in for surgery on his right knee last Tuesday and was bleeding internally. His mother caught it and took him to the ER on Friday. They re-wrapped the bandage and sent him home. But, he was taken in for emergency surgery on Sunday to relieve pressure in his leg from accumulated blood. He is likely fine and safe now but may be in intensive care for a couple days. Let's close the poll tomorrow (let everyone know they have to vote). The top four questions will be used in the debates unless there is too much category overlap. If so, I will take the next high scoring question. Again, thanks. |

All questions that can be answered easily by "yes" or "no" by use of stats should be changed to a more debatable form. I.E. :Piracy: Is software piracy justified? => Piracy: Should software piracy be justified/legalized?
