I am a May 08 grad and I've been working at a local company called
Avue Technologies since mid April. Avue (pronounced "a view") is a
government contractor that provides a software as a service for the
federal hiring process. About half of the federal government's
departments and agencies use the Avue system. The focus is to not
replace the HR departments of the agencies we contract for, but to
make them more efficient. On average we have taken the federal hiring
process from 14 months down to 4. Internships will be spent with in
the Office of Chief Architect, developing new functionality within the
system. Full time employees will be working in the Office of the Chief
Information Officer maintaining and improving the older parts of the
system. With the potential signing of some new agencies and a new
large department, Avue is starting to grow faster then the 80+
employees can keep up with.
Avue is located in down town Tacoma within walking distance of the
main bus terminal and the Tacoma link light rail, so parking and
commuting is not a problem. Especially when compared to
Seattle/Redmond.
Internships will have a flexible work time to allow for classes, with
the hope that upon graduation the intern will stay on to become a
full-time employee. Interns should be in their senior year and I would
suggest that they are done with their capstone unless they like
punishment. Full-time employees are expected to work full-time, so
only December graduates or alumni should apply.
All interested parties should go to here:
http://www.avuetech.com/careers to find out more the benefits of
working at Avue and click the "Apply Now" link to start the
application process. They should also send me a copy of their resume
(at this address) so I can make sure they get noticed once they have
applied.
