Some new features in version 2, 2.10, 2.11, 2.12, 2.16 include:
* New in version 2.16 Flicker free when using indent lines.
Easy to have custom init files on remote servers or in My Documents.
* New in version 2.12 Files in projects can be organized into groups
* New in version 2.11 A tool button may apply to multiple file types. For example,
tools 4 and 5 apply to both html and htm files.
* New in version 2.10 Optional: suggested indent lines can be drawn in the left margin. In languages like C++ and Java, it is generally recommended to indent text between { and } pairs. MultiEd can draw lines suggesting the appropiate margins in these cases. This tool can also be helpful in sinding missing braces.
* New in version 2.00 Optional: Selected text can be dragged: Selected text can be dragged from one location to another in the same file window or a different one.
* Some program bugs have been corrected:
* Multiline quotes are possible: This is particularly useful in text files. ("Options | Coloring Setup | Delimiters")
* Protection to prevent problems when two copies of the same file are opened: If you try to open a file that is already open, you are warned and asked if you want to activate the copy that is already opened or if you want a new copy. If you want a new copy, it is opened as a read only file. (You cannot change or save the file but can copy from it.) This feature helps prevent confusion and errors that could happen if two copies of a file are open, modified in different ways and saved.
* Three new programmable tool buttons: There are now nine.
* Projects: To facilitate working with related files, the concept of a project has been introduced. You may find this feature useful when you are working on a program that requires multiple source, data, or documentation text files.
* Function Tree: The user can elect to show a "function tree" that contains the file name of each file in the project and (for some file types) classes, functions, and/or subroutines in those files. When an item is clicked, the file is activated and the appropriate line is displayed.
* The help information has been greatly expanded:
* Can remove double spacing: MultiEd can remove double spacing from files. (Tools | Remove trailing blanks)
* Multiple colorings for the same file type: Multiple colorings can be set up for the same file type and it is easy switch between them.
* Colorings have been added for Javascript, Perl, SQL Server, Visual Basic and C#:
* New or improved defaults for some programmable tool buttons:
* Programmable tools will match beginning or end of windows names: This allows reopening of window names like "My HTML page - Netscape" by specifying "Netscape" as the Window Name in Options | Global Setup.
* Programmable tool can control browsers: MultiEd can open or activate a browser and change the file displayed by the browser.
* The default file save mode can be set by the user: This is convenient for those saving their files on Unix or Mac systems.
* The spelling checker is greatly improved: It has several useful options.
* An optional thesaurus is available:
* Easier installation and setup:
* Special features for use computer labs: It allows customization even when installed in read-only folders.
* Increases environment space for DOS windows: This makes it easier to write useful .bat files for use when a tool button opens a DOS window.
